Wildlife Risks Around Community Ponds

Retention ponds and community water features are wildlife magnets, which is exactly why they cause so many HOA and property manager calls.

Wildlife Risks Around Community Ponds

What shows up around ponds

Snakes (drawn to frogs, fish, and rodents along the bank), resident geese and ducks, otters, and in many parts of Florida, alligators. Not all of these are ours to handle, alligator issues go through FWC’s nuisance alligator program, not a private wildlife removal company.

What we do handle

Snake activity around pond banks and walking paths, nuisance goose and duck populations causing droppings and aggression complaints, and otter denning issues near drainage structures.

A note on alligators

Any alligator over 4 feet that is deemed a threat to people, pets, or property should be reported to FWC’s Nuisance Alligator Program at 866-392-4286, not handled privately. That is a state-regulated program with its own licensed trappers.
